And did you know that research has demonstrated that appearing as an avatar will make you feel more confident in your language lesson?

How do I prepare for a live language lesson in virtual reality?

Whether you’re feeling nervous or you’re just so excited you can’t wait to get started, you may be wondering if there’s anything you need to do to get started.

In Immerse, you don’t need to prepare anything before classes or events - you can just drop in and have fun.

But if you really want to hit the ground running, here are four things you can do to maximize your learning before your lesson even begins:

1. Activate your knowledge

When you sign up for an Immerse lesson, you’ll see the topic and a picture of the scene where it takes place.

Take a minute to imagine what you might want to talk about there.

You can also click the “Resources” tab below the picture for some helpful information that might include vocabulary, grammar tips, or cultural notes. You can also access the Resources through a link in the confirmation email you’ll get after you book your class. This is completely optional though. Feel free to just drop into the class - your teacher will provide you with everything you need when you get there!

If this isn’t your first lesson, you can also look through My Notes and review anything that might be helpful in your upcoming class or event.

2. Prep some vocab

It’s okay to go ahead and look up words for some of the things you see in the scene image. It can help you feel prepared, and you’ll be able to jump right into the conversation. (But don’t feel like you have to learn vocabulary in advance if that’s not your thing - your Guide will be there to teach you!)

3. Rehearse

Try saying a few things about the topic. This will help you see what you already know and what you still need to learn. No one to practice with? No problem! Just get comfortable talking to yourself. :)

Or visit one of our Practice scenes under the Practice menu in your homeroom and warm up with one of our AI conversation partners!

4. Turn off your ringer

Immerse lessons are fully immersive, live experiences. You’ll feel like you’re truly at the park, airport, or wherever else your teacher leads you today. Don’t let your dentist’s office spoil it by calling to remind you you’re having a root canal tomorrow!
